Much has been speculated in recent weeks about whether Apple Watch for Apple now was a disappointment or a stroke of luck. By not coming to ride and last fast dwindling demand was talk. But that's a perspective in absolute terms.
Who the performance of Apple Watch looks at relative to the market, can only draw one conclusion: The Apple Watch is currently the SmartWatch.
The SmartWatch market booming
Not all manufacturers give out official sales figures, but analysts' estimates are traditionally quite accurately and therefore reliable. Based on official and estimated numbers of SmartWatch market in 2015 grew by more than 450 percent, or in other words: In the second quarter of 2015, more smartwatches were sold (about 5 million) than in all of 2014 (approximately 4.6 million).
And now come the numbers that will drive Samsung's executive suite or the Schames- Wutröte face: To the 4 million watches sold in Q2 2015 came from Cupertino. These Apple-Watch-sales estimates not only Strategy Analytics so high, but market watchers are among the reputiertesten.
Let's look at these figures in the context of: In the second quarter, Samsung had with its smartwatches a global market share of around 74 percent. But that was a market without Apple Watch. A year later, she was there, and within a quarter, the SmartWatch world was upside down. Now Apple brings 75 percent of all sales on SmartWatch and Samsung just yet 7.5.
Relative and absolute disappointment
Because a few readers in this regard were recently confused: This is a relative perspective, and it says nothing about primarily in the economic success of (but probably indirectly). Although Strategy Analytics estimates that Samsung's heels have declined by almost 50 percent year on year, the Group had, despite the dramatic loss of market share can have a good year economically. 8 percent on an explosively growing market may be significantly more sales than 74 percent on a small market.
But that is little consolation if there are signs such an image, namely one of complete inability to inspire the users with Smart Watches. And suddenly comes an Apple-clock, and there is already a market. That can only be bitter. On the other hand Apple Watch has thus done exactly what we had desired and expected before the launch of her: She was the driving force that brings the SmartWatch in the public perception, so that all producers get real innovation incentives.
Therefore: Thank you, Apple.
