Hello!

I work for a company in London that specialises in staffing mobile application developers in Germany.

I came across this community in search of a very skilled Android developer for a position my client has in Berlin.

My question is: What is the best way to reach developers in this community without developers regarding my post as spam?

I will post the job spec which is similar to many which have been posted here or on other forums.

Android developer-Berlin

If anyone is interested in this position or can help me to better promote the Android position I have it will be greatly appreciated!

To all developers: as I am in contact with Claire via XING, I can assure that this is not spam... :)

Good morning Claire,

i moved this job advert into the jobs-section of the forum...

Chances are maybe higher at this place to get a positive answer from one of our active developers here at Androidpit.

Good luck !

€55,000 per annum

When I read this I remember my last job application on Germany and why I moved to Switzerland.

And it is not like they look for a Junior. They want “experience" and even “Team leadership”.

Well at least they are honest about it up front.

Hi Martin,

Just curious. Are you saying that providing the potential salary upfront is something that will potentially make a developer more interested in looking into a new position?

Or are you saying the salary is a turn off to this role because you believe there are higher paying roles in Switzerland?

That depends on the salary. When I lived in England I always enjoyed knowing the salary band up front. It is one more informations to to evaluate the position. And not just the to get the best deal. If the salary was very high then I could deduct that the position is more senior then my current standing.

So knowing the salary op front saves me from applying for the wrong job. Saves my time. Saves the interviewees time.

For me: yes - I am paid almost twice that at the moment. Now imagine I have read the senior level expectation i.E. “team leader” came to the interview to find out that only a junior level salary is offered. Under no circumstances I would have taken the job. The whole applications process would have been wasted.

But that is just me, I am a senior with 20 years experience. A junior with 2 years experience might see that different. A junior might think that for 55k not that much “experience" and “team leadership” is needed any might apply because of it.

I agree. From personal experience, being upfront about the salary is necessary for targeting the right developers for a role.

Wow 20 years of experience! :D I understand why you would be attracted to a much higher salary especially with experience working within finance.

Coming from someone who has lived in Germany and Switzerland would you agree the cost of living is much higher in Switzerland? Because I am looking for someone who needs a few years experience in Java and over a year developing Android, in addition to a lower cost of living, the potential salary is actually quite fair for Berlin.

Great apps btw! I wish I had an Android phone when I was in school. I could just download this instead of having to pay 100 dollars for a scientific calculator :)

You checked my CV? I hope you looked at the German one - The English one might not be as up do date. BTW: I am not working in finance any more. I work for NOSER engineering now. A founding member of the Open Handset Alliance (that's Android for most of us).

This is a very tricky one. In Switzerland taxation is lower, food more expensive, meat and rent is outrageous, electronics is similar. Over all I think you need a little more money in Switzerland. Especially since rent is high. We are house owners now - which is cheaper then renting.

Thanks. Mind you, Smart-phones are usually not allowed in tests. This is why calculators still exitst. As I say on the FX-603P website: “Many calculators today are not designed by what the user wants or needs but by what examination boards allow or deny.”

Yes I did! Part of my job, although I now have found the must more updated German version :) Wow. What an excellent career for you. So you have been developing on Android since the beginning?

Must be much better to own a house because you are correct, rent is unbelievable in Switzerland. Guess its subjective, based on your lifestyle.

Very true. Probably would not be a good idea for students to have the capability of smartphones during a test :)
