I just received my Eken M002 and was a bit confused about firmware version etc ...

boot screen:

showing android 1.6, wmt 2.0

system info:

showing build wmt2.0

but

http://www.slatedroid.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flash_ROM

which i THOUGHT is about upgrading the firmware

showing:

http://www.slatedroid.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Flash-1.jpg
http://www.slatedroid.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Flash-9.jpg

i.e. and upgrade of the build, rather than the firmware.

so maybe all i need is somebody to explain to me what are firmware and build ...

1000 thanks

ingo

so i answered the question myself by trial and error:

i installed 2.0 plus from this thread ...

http://www.slatedroid.com/eken-m002-firmware-development/8279-%5B-piece-software-flashed-device-expand-its-functionality%5D-m002s-2-0-plus.html

and nothing changed, meaning:

my eken, originally configured as in the fotos above shown, already had firmware 2.0 from the factory.
the only reason to upgrade then, it seems, would be to get root access ... done.

let's see how that goes in the next days ...

yip ... seems like everything is running fine, in case somebody wants to know. the firmware unfortunately is loaded with a lot of things i don't really want (gmail, search bars, what not ...) ... oh well ... from what i understand not much we can do about that. but then, since android reminds me a lot of linux ... we will have to see.

removing icons on the desktop is awkward on the eken m002. it took me a while to figure out you have to tap it and hold down until it starts to wiggle. then a trash can appears. that trash can, however, is not usable (when you are using the helix launcher) and will not accept the icon. rather you move the icon onto one of the 4 neon green dots in the quick launcher bar that appear. once it snaps into there, it is off the desktop. only works with a pen, not when i drag with my fingers. guess my fingers are too fat ... yeye ... next now you can tap on the icon in the launcher and hold, and after a sec or so a delete window pops up ... in case somebody needs to know ...

now i have since gotten rid of the helix launcher since i could simply not see what it should be good for.
the regular launcher is perfectly fine. now here, the trash can would accept a widget pulled onto it, but only if you pull it there reeeeeeesaaaaaaaalllllllllly ssssllllllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwwwly. if you move too fast, it will open the application or do something else. i wish there were a trash can widget to put on the desktop ...
