Hallo Forum,
I really hope you can help me with this...
First off, even prior to the 2.2 update, sometimes my phone would spontaneously reboot, preferably (but not exclusively) when generating mobile internet traffic (like when I navigate somewhere or download something rather big). I was hoping the 2.2 update might resolve this issue.
So I got the 2.2 update OTA from my provider a few days ago (btw, I never did any rooting or other "hacking" business). downloaded & installed it -> phone reboots and gets stuck at the boot screen (white background, green htc logo). since it didn't react to the power button, took out battery, waited a few secs, put it back in and started. et voila -- here comes android 2.2. entered pin, switched on mobile internet -- bam, reboot.
now, here I'm not entirely certain but I think I got it up once more, then I got another spontaneous reboot and ever since it's stuck on the white boot screen w/ green htc logo (not depicting the inspirational words "quietly brilliant").
disgruntling as this may be, it gets worse - I checked my gmail account and there were no contacts there. admittedly, i'm not what you might call an apt gmail user so i might have overlooked some backup setting - whatever. point is, no cloud backup.
so my hope rests entirely upon the sd card backup. you know, before the entire update process, the phone would backup "some data" to the sd card in order to restore it later on (i guess). i have this backup, the sd card is still readable. but how can i read it? i.e., how do i extract my data from those files? i have a folder called "backup", therein "HTC Desire" and there are some folders with promising names such as "@pm@". but the files within are somehow compressed or encrypted. how do i get my data back? does any of you know exactly what data is included in this "backup"?
or (even better), does anyone of you have any idea what is wrong with my phone or how i could fix it?
i hesitate to simply return it since that would pretty much destroy all hope for my data (apart from sd card backup). any hints are highly appreciated.
thanks,
onkel_keks
